Hello from the UK/Ireland |
|
Hi from the UK/Ireland
Thanks for the invite to join this forum. I look forward to being a member
I breed and show as a hobby, and love nothing more than to chat about our beautiful breed.
I am a long time admirer of the poodles of all sizes, that are in Europe.
I have bred and exported a couple of Dwarves, that are in Norway
I do have a website,if anyone wishes to go and have a look.
Here is a pic of one of my black toy Ch's,which I have here at home with me......lol
His name Cole.

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad to see foreign poodle friends to come here and delight all us Finns by joining the conversations here in this international part of this forum. So, feel free to start something new to discuss here, this international part has been a bit silent but the more people we have here the better discussions we should be able to have, right?
I'll have to take a closer look at your website soon... The first thing that your screen name 'Romar' brought to my mind was Romar It's For A Reason I'm - I've seen pictures of that beautiful dog and he's obviously one of those dogs you've exported to Norway, I think?
By the way, since you're in UK/Ireland and often show poodles, may I ask if you've heard about a black miniature male called Kudos Hyside? I've kind of heard that this dog has been showed recently (?) over there with quite nice success so I thought you might have heard of him? I'm just asking because I have here myself a daughter of that male, so that's why I'd like to know where her father has ended up.

Hello and Welcome !
It's nice to see you here and I hope you will enjoy your membership and discussions with us !
It is me who has invited some new international people here now, since I felt it has been so quiet here in the international section of the board. And it has been a pity since many of us Finns are very eager to change ideas with poodle people from other parts of the world too! I guess it has been a bit difficult for foreigners to find this forum earlier, without some extra advertising....

Hello |
|
Hi Romar, My father lives in Galway. I know a gal in England with a black mini. Is dwarf the European or international term, as to us Americans it miniature. I have heard the term before. As you know in the U.S. it toy 10 inches and under, miniature 10-15 inches and standard 15 inches and above.

Hi Puttin,
The dwarf is the european term used for the fourth size of poodle.
The dwarf is between the toy and mini in size.
In the UK/Ireland,we have the three sizes which are recognised.
Toys are up to 11 ins...mins up to 15 ins,and stds 15 ins and over.
Your father lives in a beautiful part of the country

That's right... it's fun how you can so quickly find little things that connect places that seem to be far away. I recently noticed that one Finnish breeder had imported brown dwarf male from Norway and this little one seems to be a son of Romar It's for A Reason I'm. Here's a link to this pup's page under the website of kennel Executive: Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |
It really is a small world.

There seems to be a lot of confusion because of these different size categories and their names. Standard seems to be called standard everywhere but miniature and dwarf seem to get mixed with each other easily. Here in Finland everyone automatically thinks toy as the smallest but in some coutries they seem to call sizes from the biggest to the smallest: standard, miniature, toy and continental toy. In some countries our miniature seems to be called medium sized poodle and our dwarf there at the same time is called miniature. There seems to be hardly any one clear logic with these breed names, not even in all FCI countries together.
But as far as I understand...
USA: Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |
toy: 10 inches or under (this is under 25 cm)
miniature: 10-15 inches (25 - 38 cm)
standard: over 15 inches (over 38 cm)
UK: Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |
toy: under 28 cm (11 inches).
miniature: under 38 cm (15 inches) but not under 28 cm (11 inches)
standard: over 38 cm (15 inches)
and for example in Finland we have the four variation system:
toy: under 28 cm (in some countries refered as continental toy)
dwarf: 28-35 cm (somewhere known as toy if toy is known as continental toy, and somewhere this size can be called miniature if the real miniature is called medium sized poodle)
miniature: 35-45 cm (somewhere called medium sized poodle while in those countries they then often call our dwarf as miniature)
standard: 45-60 (+2) cm
Could this be any more complex?
btw... I just checked the FCI website ( Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | ) and there the four poodle sizes are mentioned as standard, medium size, miniature and toy. I guess that would actually makes better sense than our way to put that dwarf name there because it's a bit hard to understand just based on the words if dwarf is smaller than miniature or the other way round.

I thought that I might place a picture of Romar It's For A Reason I'm into this posting,as I wanted to say a little something about him
I am very fortunate to have a friend like Anne-Karin Helleberg in Norway (Mikki's owner).
She has done the most amazing job of grooming him and showing him to his NCH,etc.
I could not ask for more in any owner
I am very proud of being the breeder of this little boy,but at the same time I have to give all credit to his owner in Norway...LOL.

hello from UK. |
|
Hello from UK. First time I have visited here. I have tried to register but think I failed. Never mind.
I breed and show standards in the UK, and have done for some years now. I show under the affix of Khyzahra. I attended a championship show this last weekend I had K Bertie Wooster entered in post grad, he was second, first time in this class as he has just left junior.
I share my home with 10 standards at the moment. from 14 yrs to 6months. in Black White Browns and Blues. I am Chairman of the Standard Poodle Club in the UK. We are very active in fund raising for research in S.A. is this a problem in Finland? I would also like to know how you are getting on with undocked tails. This is shortly to be something we have to deal with in the UK within the next 12months or so, which is going to make for an interesting situation. i shall be looking forward to
visiting this site again, and hopefully I will be successful with the registration.

^You are also very welcome and if something goes wrong with registration, just ask for help, it's my pleasure !
Romar: I lived in southern Sweden for a "while" ( I moved back to Finland this summer) and I have a friend there . She is into silver miniatures and this spring she started to plan puppies for her 2 year old bitch. She wanted to do her best (notice that she's a first timer with breeding stuff) with selectig the male. I could't be much help since I've mainly concentrated on apricots, and even more in black miniatures in Scandinavia. Anyway's. she found a male of her expectations from Norway, a dwarf, measuring just a few millimeters lower than a miniature here! And now, after a long trip to Norway, This guy:
